Maine Cat Introduces New 38′ Bridgedeck Catamaran

Maine Cat is excited to announce the introduction of our newest member to the Maine Cat family of open bridgedeck high-performance cruising catamarans. The new Maine Cat 38 has been designed to fill the void in the sailing multihull market for an affordable, go-anywhere, high-performance cruiser that can comfortably carry over 2 tons of payload. Her high-aspect daggerboards and rudders retract vertically to allow beaching and only 19” of draft when fully loaded. Our slender beam to length ratio of close to 12:1 provides sparkling performance with a shorter rig and smaller, easier to handle sails. This new innovative design will be available in modular components that can be shipped inexpensively anywhere in the world with final assembly completed near your home waters.

Maine Cat was the first production multihull builder to eliminate the typical “back wall” on the bridgedeck and create a huge “great room” cockpit with 360-degree visibility. This unique arrangement with a center helm position provides unparalleled weather protection, superior ventilation, and allows everyone on deck to enjoy the sailing experience together. The new MC 38 enclosure has operable forward windows, fixed side windows, and a flexible aft enclosure to convert this entire 9.5’ by 15’ bridgedeck cockpit into a protected pilothouse. The new MC 38 enclosure’s Lexan windows provide wonderful clarity and are a great improvement over earlier MC 30 Strataglass windows.

Dick Vermeulen, the president of Maine Cat, states: “Our investment in the equipment and technology to resin-infuse the thermoformed VIC Core-Cell closed cell coring in all the structural assemblies makes the new MC 38 stronger and lighter than any other Maine Cat to date. Maine Cat is the only production multihull builder in the world that thermoforms all their Core-Cell structural core. The new Maine Cat 38 is affordable, simple to sail, easy to maintain, and she will get you to your destination safely and ahead of all but the expensive carbon super yachts.”

Maine Cat has built over 125 high-quality performance catamarans on the mid-coast of Maine since 1993 with the same experienced crew of fifteen talented and proud craftsmen building yachts that will last a lifetime and more. Our success and international recognition of building superior products is a direct result of our craftsmen. We invite all our clients to visit our shop, talk with our crew, and witness a commitment to outstanding quality that is very hard to find in today’s production shops. Maine workers are unique. Maine Cat has been selling direct to our owners for 21 years and we take great pride in our commitment to provide outstanding service, before, during and after the sale. We believe there is great value to our owners being able to call Maine Cat, and talk with Dick, about any question they may have. This is probably the reason why pre-loved, used Maine Cats demand such a high resale value compared to our competition.

The new Maine Cat 38 will be displayed at the upcoming Annapolis sailboat show on October 9-13, 2014. We will also have a brand new Maine Cat 38 in the Bahamas for bareboat charter the winter of 2015. More details on the Maine Cat 38 and chartering may be found at the company’s website, www.mecat.com.
