Casco Bay is quintessentially Maine: its rocky coast, rugged islands, and scenic waters exemplify the state’s image as a natural wonder. Its waters, coves, and hundreds of islands provide endless recreational opportunities, from birding and angling to boating and beachcombing. Friends of Casco Bay recognizes that our community’s identity and wellbeing are intrinsically linked to our coastal waters, and our mission is to improve and protect the environmental health of Casco Bay. To fulfill our mission, we advocate to reduce pollution, monitor the Bay, educate our community, and collaborate to solve problems. Home to the Casco BAYKEEPER®, we are a founding member of WATERKEEPER® ALLIANCE, a network of 200 independent environmental groups working to protect waters around the world. Friends of Casco Bay is: • Locally-focused: We build community as we protect our local waters. • Science-based: The positions we take are backed up by data collected by our highly trained staff and EPA-certified volunteers. • Pragmatic: We are results-oriented, striving for measurable outcomes that protect the Bay. • Collaborative: We know that protecting the Bay is a group effort, so we work closely with scientists, government officials, businesses, residents, and other partners.
